Dorothy Leo, Washington State Branch member, won the Amazing Grace quilt
Activities of the MacMillan Clan
Washington State Branch 2014
June 1st & 2nd Bellingham Highland Games A sudden illness caused the presence at the games to be absent. We did not have a backup team for the backup team and we needed more volunteers. We had a double space reserved and no one to set up the tent and receive the members or other potential members. It was the first time we did not cover the Bellingham Games and a big disappointment to our supporters. It highlighted our vulnerable depth and the need for more of you out there to step forward to strengthen the Clan in Washington State. Please do not assume we can continue without your participation.
In Memorium: Byron G. McMillan passed away on August 2nd after struggling with cancer. He was a Charter Member of the Clan and the brother of our VP, Richard McMillan. Byron attended most of the gatherings (with his wife Susan) throughout the year and his always smiling face will be missed. He was a Marine and a civic leader that was the calm voice of reason. He grew up in Havre, Montana and spent may years in Wyoming and Washington (Mill Creek).
July 12 and 13, 2014- Skagit Valley Highland Games & Celtic Festival Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon, WA Saturday and Sunday. Thank you Ellen and Chris McMillan for helping with the set up on Friday- volunteers are appreciated! Our VP, Richard McMillan was there after some tough months of hospital and rehab this year. We had many old and new members visit us and some even paid their dues for the coming year. We also had one quarter of our quilt tickets spoken for. Only $1 per chance. Mount Vernon Highland Games
July 26th & 27th, 2014- The Seattle Scottish Highland Games - and our scheduled annual Macmillan Clan meeting at 11:45 AM SATURDAY, before the 12:30 PM Parade of the Clans. This is the biggest event of the year. We have a T-shirts and sweatshirts and they will be available for purchase. A special raffle is being held to support our local Clan activities. I anticipate record amounts of Tipsy Laird to be served... I served 40 portions in Mount Vernon. We hope to get a super response for the quilt drawing which will be held at the Hood Canal Celtic Festival.
Do not forget the super special on “S” (small sized) Clan MacMillan t-shirts and sweatshirts ($10 and $12.50 respectively). Enumclaw Expo Center 45224 - 284th Avenue SE . Lots of dues paid and quilt tickets sold.

August 9, 2014 - Whidbey Island Highland Games
Greenbank Farm, Greenbank, WA Always a special event packed into one day on the beautiful island at the height of the season.
Also welcome to the members of the Shorecrest High School as they celebrate their 45th reunion at the Games.
Great music, dancing and athletic competitions in a small venue where you can see everyone and everything.
It was a beautiful day and lots of people purchased quilt tickets.
August 30 and 31st 2014 -Hood Canal Highland Celtic Festival,
Belfair State Park 1351 NE State Route 300 Belfair, Washington The new location is wonderful.
Saw many new and old MacMillan (and Clan Sept) friends last year. This was the last event of the season and your last chance to win the coveted quilt. The quilt drawing was performed by 'Mary Queen of Scots' from a top hat at 3:00 PM on Sunday. You did not need to be present to win. I am sure it will become a family treasure for the winner, Dorothy Leo and her daughter, Stephanie Sprinkle who purchased the winning ticket for her mom.
November 1, 2014 is the Heather Tartan Ball.
Lots of music and dancing for our last event of the year. Tables were reserved for Clan MacMillan thanks to Richard McMillan, VP. We always have the biggest attendance of any clan. Richard will receive the tickets on Monday, October 20th and should be contacted to purchase a place at the tables. We already have ten firm commitments.
Aside from the draw of the live music, haggis, and other treats, we have fun and fellowship as we celebrate our heritage and common ancestry. Scotland has maintained its unique culture and we have many opportunities in the United States (and especially Washington State) to enjoy and learn more about our history and the “The Clan MacMillan International Centre”.
We support the archives of the MacMillan Clan in Scotland with a portion of our dues, clothing and calendar sales, and encourage all members to plan a trip to Finlaystone, which is very close to the Prestwick Airport (PIK), or Glasgow Airport(GLA).
Clan MacMillan International Centre,
Finlaystone, Langbank, PA14 6TJ, Scotland.
Tel: 01475-540713. Fax: 01475-540285.
This is a great trip for a family to learn about our roots and explore the country with its rich history. It is possible, also, to meet the Chief of the Clan, George MacMillan who lives at Finlaystone.
Come and join us in Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Tacoma, Seattle, Enumclaw, Whidbey Island, or Hood Canal as we set up our tent and join with other clans to honor and learn about our shared heritage. Contact: Doug Macmillan, President of the Washington State Chapter. DougMac2@clearwire.net
